The return to Buenos Aires is almost boring if not for a fine that I have to pay 80km before reaching Buenos Aires for allegedly crossing a yellow line. "Allegedly" because whoever has ever come to Argentina knows that yellow lines are barely respected (Argentina has the sad record of the highest number of deaths by road accident with 11.000 a year) and usually the local police doesn't really care. No, the policeman who stopped me is more interested by my wallet than by my health: he asks for 200USD… Having read articles about "coimas" (bribery), I declare to him that I think that 200 pesos is too much for a fine… Everything will be sorted in his office. After chatting for a while and paying he asks me to leave… without giving me a receipt. I politely insist on having one, he writes one, we keep on talking and I mention the H2 Project and just before leaving, he checks right and left, and pulls a note of 100 pesos out of his pocket that he hands back to me! I would like to thank this policeman for supporting in his own way the H2 Project; every donation even small ones are always welcome! Mercedes, the coordinator of the Project in Buenos Aires has an opportunity to go and spend a week holiday in Punta del Este. We'll meet many friends there. Punta del Este is the "chic" summer destination for Argentineans. It is a jet-set sea resort in Uruguay that locals don't hesitate in comparing with Saint-Tropez. I think this wrong idea comes more from the outrageous prices than the atmosphere of a village in the South of France… I finish the last preparation, try with no success to have some tops printed with the Project logo, manage to have the car decorated and order a website that will not be delivered on time. What I enjoy in my crazy Project is that it forces me to discover the other side of the countries I discover, not just from a tourist point of view but also it way of life, of work: now I know that Argentina will remain a nice holiday destination but not more… I receive the confirmation of the visit of a French friend: Kiki for those who him. He arrives when I receive the authorization to go and visit the hydrogen production pant in Pico Truncado in Patagonia. Let's go! |
